My 3 Cup Chemex Recipe

Who wants a 3 cup Chemex recipe?! Well, you're in luck!

I purchased my Chemex and delved into brewing with it. I spent hours trying out an array of very different recipes, all telling me different things, but nothing was quite working for me. It wasn't giving me consistent results, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of recipes out there for the 3 cup Chemex in particular.

As we discussed on my Chemex write up that you can find here, there's a lot of mixed opinions on the brewer. I was sceptical at first with my brews not coming out great, however I took it upon myself to make up a recipe and after lots of trial and error, I have done it! I have used this recipe ever since, and every time I get a cracking brew. Go and try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

Recipe:

Pour in slow concentric circles for each pour. Water temp 92 degrees C

  • Pre rinse your filter paper and discard the water

  • 22g coffee ground coarse (20 on Baratza Virtuoso +)

  • Pour 1: 50g for a 30 sec bloom, stir

  • Pour 2: At 30 seconds Pour up to 120g

  • Pour 3: At 1:15 pour up to 180g

  • Pour 4 : At 2:00 pour up to 240g

  • Pour 5: At 2:45 pour up to 300g

  • At 3:30 your brew should be ready

I have found this to be a great recipe for every coffee i've enjoyed. Full bodied, but still highlighting the sweetness, and producing a clean cup. For some coffees i've adjusted the grind slightly if it's too fast or too slow filtering through. Adjust to your taste as you wish!

Brew what you love, and love what you brew!
